Charlotte filmfest honors Iran’s ‘Mandatory’

Iran’s ‘Mandatory’ wins honor at the Charlotte Film Festival in the US.

The winners list for the Charlotte Film Festival (CFF) in the US has been announced with Iranian short flick ‘Mandatory’ being among the honored works.

Written and directed by Mohammad-Javad Khorsha, the 15-minute film received an Honorable Mention at the Narative Short section of the US fest’s 12th edition.

‘Mandatory’ is about a firing squad soldier who has been caught in a dilemma.

Between morality and work responsibility, he does not know which one to pick.

Soheil Karamyar, Soheil Qannadan, Armin Boshrouyeh, and Fatemeh Radmanesh are among the cast members of the flick.

Khoursha recently won the Best Director award for his short work at the Burien Film Festival in the US.

Besides, the film has been showcased at a number of global events, including the ifva Awards in China and the Vancouver Island Short Film Festival in Canada.

The CFF provides a cultural hub for established and emerging film-artists to showcase their works to the region's top producers, peers, investors, and viewers.

The 2020 edition of the fest was held virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic on September 23-27.
